You have never done this. Good.
Most people who go horse riding with us in Lanzarote have never sat on a horse before. It is the normal way to arrive, not the awkward one, and the whole morning is built around it.
You arrive and nobody rushes you
You meet the horse you are riding, you are told its name and what it is like, and you get a helmet that fits.
You get on in the yard, not on a hill
On flat ground, with someone holding the horse. You walk a few circles until sitting up there stops feeling strange, which for most people does not take long.
A guide stays with you for as long as you want
They ride with you, and if you would rather they lead your horse by the rope the whole ride, they do. Nobody is going to talk you into letting go.
The group goes at the speed of whoever is least sure
That is usually you, and that is fine. We split groups by level, so if you want to walk the whole way you are not holding anyone up.
The practical part
What should I wear?
Long trousers and closed shoes you can walk in. Not flip-flops, they leave your foot unprotected.
Are helmets provided?
Certified riding helmets are included and everybody wears one.
Can children ride?
The minimum age to ride a horse is 7: from 7 to 14 they ride their own horse, always accompanied by an adult, and from 14 they can ride on their own without an adult. For the littlest ones there is a gentle ride inside the grounds.
What if I already ride?
Say so when you book. You get a horse to match and, once the guide has seen you have control of it, you can trot and canter. We split groups by level for exactly this.
Which horse will I get?
The guide decides on the day, from your height, your build and what you have ridden. If you have a preference, say it and we will do what we can.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes, for the horse's sake: 120 kg per rider. Tell us your weight when you book and we will confirm the right horse for you before you come, so nobody is turned away at the yard.
